Best Time to Schedule Maternity Photos in Sarasota (What to Wear + Outfit Ideas)

Pregnancy is such a sacred and fleeting season, and one of the most common questions I receive as a Sarasota maternity photographer is, “When is the best time to schedule maternity photos?” The timing of your session can make all the difference in how you feel, how your images look, and how comfortably you move throughout your shoot—especially here in Sarasota, Bradenton, and Lakewood Ranch where weather plays a role.

Maternity sessions are typically best scheduled between 28–34 weeks of pregnancy. During this window, your belly is beautifully defined while you’re still comfortable enough to walk, pose naturally, and enjoy the experience. If you’re expecting multiples or feeling discomfort earlier, consider scheduling closer to 26–30 weeks. Every pregnancy is different, and your comfort always comes first.

When Is the Best Time for Maternity Photos?

What to Wear for Your Maternity Photos

Option 1: A Flowing Dress
Flowing gowns are timeless and photograph beautifully—especially for Siesta Key beach maternity photos or golden-hour sessions in Sarasota. The movement of the fabric adds softness and elegance, creating romantic, wind-kissed imagery.

Option 2: Open Belly Look
For mothers who want to embrace this season fully, an open-belly look can feel powerful and intimate. Whether paired with a soft knit, unbuttoned blouse, or fitted skirt, this style highlights the beauty of pregnancy in a natural, artful way.

Or we can do a little bit of both!

Where to Take Maternity Photos in Sarasota

As a maternity photographer serving Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Parrish, Siesta Key, and Lido Beach, I typically recommend:

Beach sessions for soft, glowing light
Nature preserves for earthy tones
In-home sessions for intimate, lifestyle imagery

Booking Your Sarasota Maternity Session

Because maternity sessions are best photographed during a specific window, I recommend booking during your second trimester to secure availability. Many families choose to combine maternity and newborn photography into a collection to ensure consistent editing, style, and savings across both sessions.
